Food Animal Drug Residue Avoidance & Depletion (FARAD)

This site is a component of the United States' Chemical Food Safety Program. Its main focus is conducting and providing "scientifically-based         recommendations regarding safe withdrawal intervals of drugs and chemicals in food-producing animals."  Search VetGRAM by ingredient, species, or trade name to learn if animals treated with a specific drug are safe to use for food purposes, during or after treatment. FARAD also gathers and provides access to a wealth of information on veterinary pharmaceuticals: an extralabel drug use algorithm to decide if an off-label drug use in an animal is safe; FARAD Digests provide guidelines on administration route and dosage for animals; full-text of selected review articles, newsletters, and additional publications on drug use in animals and scientific methods for further study of drug use in animals; links to selected government and non-governmental organizations, laws, and rules pertaining to drug use in animals; and lists of frequently-encountered acronyms in veterinary drug practice.

The Pharmacology chapter provides brief overviews of pharmacokinetics, drug action and pharmacodynamics, and dosage forms and delivery systems. Sections within this chapter focus on specific classes of drugs most frequently used in veterinary practice. Additional content of note includes: table of poisonous houseplants; reference ranges for animal heart rates, temperatures, and hematological measurements; and overviews of body systems and processes for animals.
